Dr. Justin C. Kasper, High Energy Astrophysics Division of the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory at Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics at Harvard University. The display wall behind Kasper, is used to explore the 3TB/day of high resolution solar images captured by the Solar Dynamics Observatory spacecraft, which tracks the Sun 24/7 from geosynchronous orbit. At 16 million pixels each, the images must be split across multiple HD screens to be seen at full resolution. The images shown here are of ultraviolet emission from plasma in the solar atmosphere at temperatures of up to 10 million degrees. Justin Ide/Harvard Staff Photographer
